There’s a set number of levels that the game picks from, but several features are randomized each time, from where items and teleporters are to which enemies and boss you face to what items you get. Because of how strong items are, every run is fresh. You could be playing the slowest character with a 600% speed boost one run (speaking from experience - perhaps 600% is rare but it can happen in normal gameplay) and have a set of items that encourage sitting still and tanking damage for your teammates the next, or so many extra jumps that your goal is to survive and chip away. Put Overwatch’s control scheme in a PvE environment - you’re fighting off swarms of monsters as you search for the teleporter to take you to the next level, which is guarded by a boss.Īlong the way you can spend gold earned from monsters to open chests for random loot, repair drones to act as teammates, and other such thingsĮvery item is notably impactful, so even with the same character your kit varies wildly between runs.
Instead of an ultimate on a face button there’s an equipment button that varies not from character to character but from held item to held item. It’s comparable to Overwatch, with L/R/ZL/ZR being the four attack buttons, typically being two fairly normal attacks and two specials. I’ll summarize gameplay in a few bullet points.
