This practitioner-paper makes key contributions to the practice and selects theories by extending the framework of ICT layered structure elaborating segments of digital platforms. It highlights the current IT engagement trends in platform services. This study provides an analysis that can create a baseline to assess AI platform dynamics in emerging countries. The selected Indian origin IT service firms are evaluated using relevant competitiveness criteria such as R&D spending, patents, and platform capabilities.
The research draws on facts from benchmarking FIOs and their platform offerings with international platform solution providers. This research aims to examine the present platform capabilities of the FIOs and provide insights on how they can leverage the best practices to scale up their platform offerings to gain an international competitive advantage. Major information and communication technology (ICT) software service firms of Indian origin (FIOs) have increased their attention toward offering platform-based services from just legacy IT service offerings to remain competitive in the digital era. The concept of digital platforms is widely discussed among practitioners and scholars as businesses are increasingly organizing around platforms.
